Centers established to observe open source software copyright

Tehran, May 30, Taliya News – Secretary of Basic Software Workgroup at country’s Supreme IT Council said here Saturday the strategic document for safeguarding the intellectual property (copyright) of open source software producers is prepared.
Ali Nasseri emphasizing that the general structure and ways for safeguarding the right of the open software producers must be properly defined in the country, reiterated, “With the ratification of the Open Source Software Copyright Document it would meanwhile be clarified which organs are in charge of backing the open source software producers and creators, after which they would be notified of the moves they have to make to meet their duties in this regard.
He said, “As soon as devising the Open Source Software Copyright Document we would forward it to the legal sources for ratification and then put it into effect.”
Pointing out the concerned source for policy making on open source software should be defined in our country, Dr. Nasseri reiterated, “We intend to establish centers for registration of the creators and producers of such software under the supervision of the ICT Ministry, which would each have an IT laboratory.”
The Deputy ICT Minister in Infrastructure IT Affairs added, “The expansion of open source software production is seen mainly as the activity of the country’s universities and we intend to subdivide its various fields of activities among countries with IT faculties.”
He said, “Among the other objectives of devising the Open Source Software Copyright Document I can refer to supporting the efforts made in the field by the private sector,” further reiterating, “With the ratification of this law every matter related to open source would be dealt with logically in Iran.”
