Transparency must be observed in IranCell bill calculation
May 13, 2007 11:42 PM
Tehran, May 14, Taliya News – Former head of Radio Communications & Regulations Organization (RCRO) said here Saturday it is mobile phone subscriber’s right to be properly informed on method applied in calculating their mobile bills.
According to Fars News Agency, following the issuance of some outrageously high mobile phone bills for IranCell subscribers, the RCRO warned IranCell to change its bill calculation method from minutes tariff basis to seconds tariff, and the 2nd Operator, after a series of lingering debates, finally yielded to the demand on May 5th.
Yet, the controversy did not end there, since IranCell could not so easily abandon the issuance of outrageously high bills for its subscribers. Therefore, the private operator defined new “double-tariffs” for its prepaid and postpaid subscribers, one based on minutes, and the other on seconds.
The new tariffs were so high the IranCell subscribers rushed to SIM card markets to sell their SIM cards at much lower than market prices.
Meanwhile, the mobile phone market experts believe any tariff change of the operators should take place following proper notification of its subscribers.
The former ICRO Chief, Mas’oud Davarinejad added in his interview with Fars News Agency, “IranCell must observe transparency in calculation of its subscribers’ bills, so that they would easily be able to figure out why and how they have been charged a certain amount.”
