February 6, 2008 10:00 AM
To improve the current status of handsets in outlets, the import tariff should be reduced to 5 percent, although it has been ratified to be 25 percent, said the president of telecommunication systems’ guild in Tehran.
Ahmad Mohebi said: ‘The ratification of importing handsets tariff, which is 25 percent, has not been imperative to prevent smuggling of these products so that we are not ensured of free flow of these products in outlets.’
Limiting the illicit activities of some companies is not imperative, as he said.
He said: “4 percent tariff results in a significant activities of legal companies and their rivalries activities with illegal importers. That is the way of elimination of the smugglers.
Import tariff of handset was 60 percent, while it was 4 percent before, but suddenly has been increased to 60 to protect domestic manufacturers, in Khordad, 1386. However, smuggling increased instead of protection of domestic manufacturers.
Clause 1 commission has reduced the import tariff into 25, on which legal importers have been objected, in Azar, 1386.
